Nutmeg, a gentle explorer learning to trust

A gentle explorer learning to trust, with a heart that shines once he feels safe.

Nutmeg and his brother Nacho were rescued from an offshore island, brought into the AVS pound, and later bailed out together. They’ve since been living at the shelter for about three years.

Nutmeg is a thoughtful, observant cat who takes his time adjusting to new spaces and people. Although he still isn’t receptive to direct interaction at first — often choosing to hide when approached — he is beginning to realise when it’s familiar humans, and in time, comes out to accept gentle pets and rubs. Once he trusts, you can see just how affectionate he truly is. The way to his heart is through play, and he especially delights in feather teasers.

In just a short time with us, Nutmeg has grown much more confident — from only exploring at night when he felt unnoticed, to now lounging comfortably in the open during the day while humans are busy around him.

He is gentle by nature, never aggressive, and simply needs patience, love, and a calm environment to continue blossoming. While he’ll likely be fine as a solo cat, having a familiar feline presence — especially his brother Nacho — gives him extra confidence.
